Asian Americans for Equality held a workshop last week at state Assemblyman Ron Kim’s (D-Flushing) district office at 136-20 38th Ave. for the One Flushing housing project, which has begun accepting applications through the New York City Housing Preservation and Development Department’s Housing Connect website.

Flora Flerng, managing director of Outreach, Advocacy & Program Services at AAFE, gave a presentation to the assemblyman’s staff during the July 19 workshop on the application process for One Flushing, a joint venture project between, AAFE, Monadnock Construction, and HANAC Inc.

“We are incredibly excited to open the housing lottery for One Flushing, the largest 100 percent affordable housing development to be built in the neighborhood,” said Thomas Yu and Jennifer Sun, AAFE’s co-executive directors. “With a new development with great amenities in the heart of Flushing there is a lot of interest and some people will need extra support to apply.”

The 231 residential unit development, located on what was formerly municipal Lot 3 at 133-45 41st Ave. will have 66 units for seniors and offer the remaining 165 to individuals with incomes between $31,543 to $95,030 a year, and families that earn between $31,543 to $157,300 a year, according to AAFE.

It will include a 156-space public parking garage, 15,000 square feet of community space, and 25,000 square feet of retail space. AAFE will provide a wide range of services for seniors at One Flushing — health care, adult day care, education programming, exercise opportunities and one-on-one social services.

Amenities include a 24-hour doorman, kids’ playroom, gym, landscaped rooftop terraces and a rooftop farm for residents. The roof also contains a massive 134kW solar array, the largest on any multi-family development to date in the Flushing neighborhood.

The application window officially opened June 28 and will close Aug. 28. Kim’s office has already begun offering constituents services for interested applicants, including helping them to obtain application forms and fill them out.

“Housing has remained the No. 1 issue for my constituents these last few years, and I am proud of the work our office has done to assist them on this issue,” Kim said. “We are more than willing to help interested applicants in our district to apply to the One Flushing Project. Anyone interested in filling out any application through our office should contact us to first set up an appointment.”
