Cops find dead man floating in the water near the College Point Yacht Club

Detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in the water off the College Point coastline on Thursday morning.

Officers from the 109th Precinct and the NYPD Harbor Unit responded to the College Point Yacht Club, located in the area of Powells Cove Boulevard and 126th Street, at 9:31 a.m. on Aug. 9 after receiving a 911 call about an unconscious man.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found a man in his 40s floating in Powells Cove, unconscious and unresponsive. First responders brought the man to the College Point Yacht Club, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not disclose the man’s identity. His body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Sources familiar with the investigation said that it’s not known how long the man had been in the water.
