Queens-native rapper and actor LL Cool J returned to the borough to host a basketball tournament for kids in St. Albans this past weekend.

Throughout the month of August, Jump and Ball Foundation allows hundreds of kids ages 8 to 18 to come to Daniel O’Connell Park on Saturdays and Sundays to play basketball and hone their skills for free. Now in its 14th year, the camp aims to help kids learn team building and leadership skills that are critical to life off the court.

The Jump and Ball Foundation was launched in 2005 by LL Cool J, originally of Hollis. On Aug. 25, the Grammy-winning artist came to O’Connell Park to host the camp’s annual basketball tournament to close out the camp for the summer.

This year, participants in the camp received backpacks full of school supplies since this year’s program was close to the beginning of the school year. Target provided snacks and drinks for the tournament.
