Momo Crawl returns Oct. 7.

This October, Momo Crawl brings the well-loved South Asian delicacy to Jackson Heights.

For the seventh year in a row, the local food crawl will bring together over 20 local restaurants selling the popular Himalayan dumpling, which consists of a steamed flour shell filled with meat, vegetables or cheese. Momo is said to have originated in Tibet and is popular with people from countries like Nepal, Bhutan and India.

On Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m., Momo Crawl takes place at several Tibetan, Nepalese and South-Asian restaurants near Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights. To participate, guests purchase a $10 “passport” which allows them to “crawl” by foot or trolley to the participating restaurants selling Momo for $1 each.

At the end of the event, guests vote the winning restaurant, which will be presented with the Momo Championship Belt made with real yak hide. The reigning champion is Nepali Bhanccha Ghar (74-06 37th Rd.), which won the Momo Belt at last year’s crawl.

The first 1,000 people to purchase a passport will receive a gold embossed Momo Passport book, while those who purchase later will receive the color Momo Passport. Passports will be available for pick up on 37th Road and 74th Street on the day of the event.

Returning to this year’s Momo Crawl is the wooden, vintage-style trolley, which will take guests to each restaurant on the list as well as to the festival featuring music and dancing from Tibetan and Nepalese artists.

Proceeds from the crawl will go toward supporting Students for a Free Tibet, an international nonprofit organization that works with Tibetan people for their human rights and freedom.
