A popular Astoria coffee shop reopened last week with an expanded focus on cocktails and American fare.

On Sept. 4, Gossip Coffee, located at 37-04 30th Ave., returned to the neighborhood after a five-month hiatus. According to the eatery’s co-owner James Paloumbis, the lack of foot traffic from the 30th Avenue subways closure caused him to move his renovation plans forward. The coffee shop opened its doors in July 2015 and focused on traditional offerings including several blends of coffee, cold teas on tap and a selection of pastries.

Now Gossip Coffee is rebranding as Gossip Coffee, Cocktails, Cuisine to reflect the new options available to patrons. Paloumbis has teamed with For Five Coffee Roasters owners Stefanos Vouvoudakis and Tom Tsiplakos and Chef Scheyla Acosta in this new “all-inclusive experience.”

For Five is a Queens-based micro-roasting facility with outposts throughout New York City, Long Island and Los Angeles. For Five is serving an expanded coffee menu at Gossip seven days a week.

In addition to coffee, the eatery will have food by Chef Schelya Acosta and a new bar serving beers on tap, a section of red and white wine and an assortment of handmade cocktails. Non-alcoholic drinks will also be available.

Chef Acosta’s food menu covers a range of breakfast and lunch options, with a focus on “modern American” cuisine. Many of the items accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free lifestyles and are clearly labeled on Gossip’s menu.

Breakfast options include healthy dishes like 24 Hour Oatmeal served with honey, nuts, seeds and cashew butter or The Astoria, a scrambled egg dish made with halloumi cheese, vegetables and basil mayo. For lunch, guests can nosh on a lobster roll made with Maine lobster on a brioche bun or the cauliflower tabbouleh mixed with veggies, herbs and a lemon vinaigrette.

The breakfast menu is served all day, while lunch is served until 6 p.m. All ingredients used are locally sourced. Also new at Gossip are the range of stuffed cookies and pastries, which will be provided by two local businesses: Duchess Cookies NYC and Bakehouse.

Gossip Coffee, Cocktails, Cuisine is opened Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more information, check them out @gsspcoffee on Facebook.
