It’s two days of unbridled imagination in the “Cool Geek Fantasy Genre” with appearances by such screen stars as Samwise Gamgee from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Ezra Bridger from “Star Wars Rebels.”

A few thousand enthusiasts are expected to attend the NYC area’s biggest SciFi convention, Wintercon 2018, at Resorts World Casino New York City in South Jamaica on Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2.

Cosplay is at the heart of the weekend’s activities, and many attendees will dress as superheroes, anime characters, and pop culture icons. Some will participate in photo meet ups. Others will do battle in friendly competitions. Still more will channel their characters’ inner souls and do some singing, dancing, and saving the world.

Plus, professional cosplayers – including Beautiful Dizazter, Casterly Fox, and Tank — will be on hand for photos, autographs, and general mischief (or do-gooding).

In other spots, seminars, panel discussions, and live events will unfold, while an estimated 200 vendors will sell everything from jewelry to tee-shirts. For a special treat this year, comic book creators — including illustrators, writers, and artists — will be on hand to chat with fans, discuss their trade, and take commissions.

Sean Chen from Iron Man, X Men, and Wolverine fame will be there. Ditto for Paris Cullins, who’s behind Blue Beetle, Blue Devil, and Hyperkind.

Some actors who do the voice-over roles for animated shows and video games will add to the surreal atmosphere. Vanessa Marshall headlines the list. She has done characters in the Marvel and DC comic universes as well as the “Star Wars Rebels” television series. She is also the speaker in several video games, such as Olga Gurluckovich in Metal Gear Solid and Poison Ivy in Lego Batman.

Then there are the professional wrestlers. Asuka, aka “The Empress of Tomorrow,” is a WrestleMania champion who uses special kicks and submission styles to pin her opponents. Bray Wyatt, who is known as “The New Face of Fear,” “The Eater of Worlds,” and “The Man of 1,000 Truths,” will be there as well.

Children will get their moment on Sunday with a costume showcase just for them, Jedi Training Academy, Pool-Noodle Lightsaber-Making Workshops, and a Harry Potter trivia contest. Yes, youngsters can train to be Jedis. The Empire Saber Guild will teach about the power of Force One, Light Saber techniques, and battle choreography. Every child gets a free Light Saber and certificate of instruction.

Wintercon 2018 will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets run from $12 to $140 with one-day, two-day, and VIP options.

Resorts World Casino is located at 110-00 Rockaway Blvd. The A train’s Far Rockaway branch has a stop, the Aqueduct/North Conduit Station, on the property, which has various parking lots.
