P.S. 130 in Bayside is hosting a spring carnival on Saturday, May 18.

A Bayside public school is hosting a day of fun, games and fundraising this weekend.

The parent-teacher association at P.S. 130 have organized a spring carnival for Saturday, May 18, complete with rides, bouncy castles, food, face painting and raffles. All proceeds from the carnival will go toward programs to enhance the students’ education, including a STEM program the school hopes to implement next year.

“Due shortages in funding, sometimes we lack the variety of programs that larger schools provide. We at the PTA want to¬†ensure that our children are offered the same opportunities as students at bigger schools,” wrote the school’s PTA in a letter.

According to the event organizers, the school will offer the S.T.E.M Enrichment LEGO Robotics school program to students in first through fifth grade. Students will build a new project during the weekly program, which allows them to explore the principles of “engineering, architecture, and physics and strengthening their problem solving and critical thinking skills.”

Children’s tickets for the carnival are $20 at the door and includes rides, face painting and one popcorn or cotton candy. Adults are eligible to purchase an unlimited amount of $5 raffle tickets to win a basket of their choice including American Girl Dolls, beauty baskets and makeup baskets.

Those who are interested can also purchase raffle tickets even if they do not plan on attending the carnival. The P.S. 130 PTA will also accept donations of the following:

  • Cases of bottled water
  • Juice boxes and pouches
  • Soda cans
  • Plates
  • Napkins
  • Ice pops
  • Hot dog buns
  • Individual serving bags of chips or pretzels

The P.S. 130 spring carnival is on Saturday, May 18 from noon to 5 p.m. Attendees are asked to gather in the school’s playground at 200-01 42nd Ave. For more information contact Nancy at 646-427-8962 or by email at ptaps130q[@]gmail.com.
