Cops cuff 12-year-old boy in connection with attempted rape in Ridgewood

Police arrested a 12-year-old boy in connection with an attempted rape in Ridegwood on Tuesday, July 7.

The boy has been charged with robbery, assault, burglary, sex abuse, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities say the 37-year-old victim was returning to her home in the vicinity of Gates and Cypress avenues around 8 a.m. on July 6 when the boy – whose identity has not been revealed – allegedly followed her into her building.

Once inside, the boy allegedly pushed the woman to the floor and attempted to remove her clothes, police said. The woman fought back and the boy fled the building on foot to parts unknown, according to authorities.

Authorities originally described the suspect as being Hispanic and approximately 20 to 30 years old.
