Thieves rob man of $10,000 in Sunnyside: NYPD

The NYPD is looking for two men who assaulted and robbed a man of $10,000 in Sunnyside last month.

The robbery was allegedly the final stage of a social media scam, in which the perpetrators request the victim produce a large sum of cash in exchange for an even larger deposit into their bank account, police sources said.

On Thursday, July 30, around 1:40 p.m., two unidentified men followed a 23-year-old man into 45-38 40th St., according to police.

Once in the building, the two men punched and kicked the 23-year-old repeatedly before taking his cell phone, house keys, a shirt and a bag that contained $10,000, police said.

The 23-year-old was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital – Queens, where he was treated for a fractured nose.

Both suspects are described as being around 25 years old, according to the NYPD. The first suspect was last seen wearing a blue surgical mask, a blue shirt and black pants. The second suspect was last seen wearing a blue surgical mask, a light-colored baseball cap, a black shirt, pink shorts and white sneakers.
