Last call for violin competition

Young violin players have until Friday, April 20 to register for the 1st Annual Young Artists Violin Competition, which is being presented by Flushing Town Hall and sponsored by the Flushing Violin Shop.
The contest is open to violin students between the ages of 5 and 18, with participants being divided into three age categories - 5 to 9 (Division I), 10 to 13 (Division II) and 14 to 18 (Division III). The three winners in each age group will receive a Snow Violin. They will also perform in a Winners Recital at Flushing Town Hall on May 19.
All applications must be received by Flushing Town Hall by Friday, April 20. A $25 registration fee is required.
Contestants who qualify will be called and given time slots.
Violinists in the Division I group need to prepare two pieces of music totaling 10 minutes, preferably with contrasting styles.
Division II contestants have to prepare “a short show piece and one movement of a classical or Romantic concerto.”
For Division III, participants need to select a J.S. Bach solo violin piece from Adagio and Fugue in G minor, Grave and Fugue in A minor and Adagio and Fugue in C major. They also need to prepare “one movement of a major Romantic concert (cadenza included) with piano accompaniment.”
