Why did you decide to run for City Council: “I really want to work to improve the quality of life,” Van Bramer said. “I really care about my neighbors and my neighborhood.” The Democrat said he has dedicated his entire adult career to community organizing and called his candidacy “an opportunity to help people.”
What are two major issues affecting your community: Van Bramer said he hopes to expand public libraries, which he called an extension of our education system and a necessary resource for senior citizens, entrepreneurs and even those looking to learn another language. He also spoke of his plans to open a new branch in Hunters Point.
Van Bramer also addressed the importance of a community’s quality of life. “Maintaining quality of life is very important,” he said, explaining that it encompasses graffiti, noise, parking, transportation and quality affordable housing as well as safe and clean streets. Additionally, Van Bramer said he would focus on public transportation, fighting to improve service on the No.7 train and working with the MTA to inform riders about service delays.
What’s the first thing you would focus on if elected: “I aspire to have the best constituent service operation,” Van Bramer said, adding, “I’m there to work for them [the people].” If elected, he said he would be “accessible, reliable, and accountable.”
