Maspeth teen Kevin Schick (center) started Xtreme Entertainment when he was only 14 years old.

While other little kids were waiting in line for cake or ice cream at birthday parties, Kevin Schick stood attentively by the DJ and fell in love with the music that would inspire him to start his own business.

At only 14 years old, the Maspeth teen started Xtreme Entertainment and began performing at small events. As time went by, Schick began upgrading his equipment and his business took off.

“I took it upon myself to start the business,” he said. “I got the equipment and created a name. I just did everything myself.”

Now 18 years old, Schick is the owner, MC and DJ of Xtreme Entertainment, which features six other DJs.

They spin tracks from across the decades, including Italian and Greek hits.

Schick has performed for events including the Light the Night Leukemia and Lymphoma Walk and the 104th Precinct Night Out Against Crime.

According to Schick, each one of the DJs is multi-talented and interacts with party guests. The team also tries to make booking an easy process that fits everyone’s budget.

“Not only is our team young and experienced, we are full of energy,” said Schick. “I’m just really proud and I’m just happy to see what it has become. It’s just a good feeling to have something blow up that big.”

For the past five years, Xtreme Entertainment has catered to events outside of New York, including Connecticut and New Jersey. The DJs perform from large catering halls to local school events including proms.

“No job is too big or too small for us,” said Schick. “We go everywhere.”

When Schick is not mixing beats, he is a sophomore studying criminal justice at C.W. Post, now known as LIU Post, in Long Island hoping to get into federal law enforcement.
