Burglar confronts a 9-year-old girl after bursting through the door of a Ridgewood apartment

Police are looking for a man who tried to burglarize a Ridgewood apartment.

At 7:43 a.m. on Nov. 11, law enforcement sources said, the unidentified burglar entered a residential building in the vicinity of Seneca Avenue and Gates Avenue. Once inside, he went up to the second floor and kicked in an apartment door.

Inside the apartment, the suspect confronted a 9-year-old girl and attempted to put his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming. Seconds later, he fled the location empty-handed.

A 27-year-old woman was present in the apartment at the time of the incident. Police did not disclose the woman’s relationship to the child.

The incident was reported to the 104th Precinct; the child was not injured.

Detectives described the suspect as a Hispanic man who was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
