Andre Louis, the 60-year-old father who will complete a historic “Ride for the Ages,” has left on his journey.
Sent off amidst a crowd of well-wishers following opening festivities held at the Jewish Home in San Francisco on Tuesday, Louis commenced his 3,300-mile trek from the Golden Gate Bridge at approximately 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Accompanied by his daughter Michele — his muse and inspiration — his son Jean-Daniel, and his wife Susan, Louis was also joined by Kenneth M. Brown, President and CEO of Margaret Tietz and Chairman of Ride for the Ages, as he began his voyage.
Along his route, Louis will make stops in Denver, Cleveland and Chicago, speaking at the Shalom Park Nursing Facility in Colorado, the Council for Jewish Elderly in Chicago and the Menorah Park Nursing Facility in Cleveland, in order to promote aging well and maintaining one’s health through physical fitness and being involved and committed.
“I hope by riding across America I will provide insight and hope to those patients who I encounter on a daily basis,” said Louis. “Most personally, I want to show my gratitude to the ‘angels’ that tirelessly devote their skills and caring manner to the dying patients in hospices all over the country.”
