Firm gets first Mets contract

The Mets have awarded their first construction project to Urban Foundation/Engineering LLC in East Elmhurst.
&#8220The first major contract to be awarded for this project is for excavation and foundation and that was awarded to a Queens-based business - Urban,” said Dave Howard, Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the New York Mets.
&#8220It is approximately a $60 million contract so we are off to a very good start in regards to our commitment to do our best to award contracts to Queens-based and minority-owned businesses, and we will follow through on that commitment,” Howard said.
The company provides &#8220underpinning, sheeting, excavation, piles and mini-piles, anchors, caissons, rock and earth tie-backs, shoring and jacking, structural movers, dewatering and concrete foundations,” according to its listing on the Deep Foundations Institute website.
One of Urban's most recent projects is the foundation for a 40-story residential building in downtown Brooklyn, which is due to be completed in 2008.
