Skating is cool for kids

These kids from the Lost Battalion Recreation Center in Rego Park and the Detective Keith Williams Recreation Center in Jamaica are some of the very first to try out the brand-new World Ice Arena in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
The rink, part of the award-winning recreation complex with the new natatorium (that’s a building housing a swimming pool) hadn’t even had an official opening ceremony with Mayor Bloomberg officiating, before the kids got on the ice on Saturday, February 7, according to a Department of Parks spokesperson.
The children had fun with Arena General Manager Kristi Tortorella (far left); Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, (fifth from left) and Ice Rink Events Project Manger Ron Kraut (far right).
