Queens Borough President Melinda Katz hosted Queens Borough Hall’s inaugural Veterans Day Observance Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 6. The borough president said the event gave the people of Queens the opportunity to salute the men and women who have served our country in uniform and was a chance to draw attention to the importance of supporting our veterans upon their return to civilian life. John Rowan (left), president of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and Fritz Fils- Aime (right), founder and president of the Haitian American Veterans Foundation, are two Queens residents who were honored during the ceremony for their advocacy on behalf of our nation’s veterans. Also honored at the ceremony was WWII hero and veterans advocate Rocco Moretto, who was unable to attend the event.
