Police shot and arrested a Briarwood man who led them on a pursuit through Brooklyn after allegedly participating in a cellphone store robbery on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Altariq Mciver, 39, of Ferndale Avenue along with two Brooklyn men — Alan Francois, 25, and Marquis Riley, 25 — are accused of working together to hold up the Verizon Wireless store located at 418 Avenue P in Midwood, Brooklyn, at 11:08 a.m. on Jan. 28.
According to police, two of the suspects entered the location — one of whom displayed a black firearm — and announced the robbery. They then forced the store employees to a back room, then removed an undetermined amount of cellphones. The crooks then exited the store and fled inside a black Jeep.
Shortly after the crooks left the location, authorities noted, a store employee followed their vehicle and called 911.
Officers from the 66th Precinct in a marked patrol car spotted the black Jeep in the area of Coney Island Avenue and East 15th Street and broadcast a description of the vehicle to other units in the area. Moments later, a second patrol car observed the Jeep in the area of East 14th Street and Avenue O.
Police said the Jeep then turned southbound on East 14th Street and struck a vehicle. Mciver, Francois and Riley exited the car; police said Mciver then displayed a firearm.
One of the responding officers then pulled out his gun and opened fire, striking Mciver twice in the torso. Paramedics brought him to Kings County Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Francois and Riley were subsequently apprehended.
Mciver faces charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, while Francois and Riley were each charged with robbery.
