NORTH CORONA — Police have made an arrest in the death of a St. Albans man whose body was found in a car outside a North Corona auto parts store Sunday morning.

Careem Holder, 30, was cuffed by detectives and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of tampering of tampering with evidence, according to an NYPD spokeswoman, who added that the investigation was ongoing.

Police from the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights responded to a 911 call of an assault outside the Auto Zone store, located at 95-01 Northern Blvd., where officers discovered the body of 26-year-old Darryl Whitfield in the back seat of a BMW, police said. The victim was found unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to the head, according to investigators.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death.
