19 people were injured after FDNY truck crashes into MTA bus in Astoria

An FDNY truck that was racing to the scene of a fire crashed into an MTA bus in Astoria Sunday afternoon, leaving 19 people injured, it was reported.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. on June 26, the rig of Engine Co. 312, which was heading to a fire reported at 8-01 26th Ave. in Astoria, collided with the bus at the intersection of Ditmars Boulevard and 21st Street. An MTA spokesperson said the bus was moving on a green light as the truck had its emergency lights and siren on.

As a result, 14 civilians and five firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, an NYPD spokesperson said.

According to the NY Post, the bus jumped a curb and landed only a few feet from the outdoor patio of Bowery Bay restaurant on Ditmars Boulevard. Witnesses told the NY Post that there was a pregnant woman as well as a small baby among the injured.

Police confirmed that a crash investigation squad wasn’t requested at the scene.

An MTA spokesperson said that the accident is under investigation.
