The library at Junior High School 189 in Flushing got a huge upgrade. City Councilman Peter Koo (D-Flushing) joined staff and students Monday for a ribbon cutting as they unveiled the new Apple laptop computers.

The councilman funded $775,000 worth of computers for the school as part of the library and technology initiative. Principal Cynthia Diaz-Burgos presented Koo with an Appreciation Award “in grateful recognition of your tireless support of JHS 189Q, making it possible to provide our students with the educational technology requirements of the 21st century.”

Koo was excited to provide the junior high schoolers with the laptops.

“Each budgetary cycle, the first phone calls I make are to the school principals in Council District 20 to make sure they have the tools they need to provide our children with the best opportunities to succeed,” Koo said. “Learning space and technology often top these lists, so I’m proud to be able to assist JHS 189 with these essential resources.”
