One man is dead and another was injured during an early morning shooting outside of a strip mall in St. Albans on Wednesday, police said.

At around 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, officers from the 113th Precinct responded to a ShotSpotter activation that alerted officers of shots fired in the vicinity of 126-14 Merrick Blvd. ShotSpotter is a computer program that detects where gunshots have been fired.

Upon their arrival, officers found two 23-year-old men with gunshot wounds. The first victim was shot in the torso while the second victim was shot in the lower left leg.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the victims to Jamaica Hospital, where the first victim, who has been identified as 23-year-old Chad Baldeo of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead. The second victim is in the hospital in stable condition.

Police did not disclose the relationship between the two victims.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
