A 40-year-old homeless man was found dead near a Long Island City intersection on Jan. 20 and police believe it may have been due to a drug overdose.

Police responded to a 911 call about an unconscious man found in the vicinity of 34th Street and Queens Boulevard at about 8:30 a.m.

When they arrived, police found 40-year-old Ivan Avilla, who was unresponsive but did not display any signs of trauma.

Avilla was transported to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An NYPD spokesperson said that detectives believe he may have died of a drug overdose, but that the medical examiner will make the final determination.
