UniverSoul Circus celebrates 25 years of family entertainment

UniverSoul Circus is celebrating its 25th anniversary with another tour through the Tri-State area.

UniverSoul, a black-owned circus, is set to return to Roy Wilkins Park, a park in southeast Queens that has hosted it for years, to usher in its silver anniversary from March 22 through April 8.

“This has been an amazing journey and a fantastic ride,” said Cedric Walker, founder and CEO of UniverSoul Circus. “Generations have witnessed our growth and have evolved with us.”

Leading the entertainment is Ringmaster Lucky and his sidekick, Zeke, who will be performing along with Caribbean Dancers, clowns, comedy dogs and motorcyclists.

There are exciting acts on teeterboards, trampolines, poles, horses and a Quick Change performance.

The circus performers are from South Africa, Mongolia, Chile, Cuba, Russia Guinea, China, Trinidad and Tobago and all over the United States.

“Generations have witnessed our growth and have evolved with us,” Walker said.

The show doesn’t only feature diverse performers, but also music spanning several genres, including Pop, Classic R&B, Latin, Hip Hop, Jazz and Gospel.

UniverSoul Circus was considered the second highest rated circus in America, with Cirque du Soleil at No. 1, according to Ticketmaster, an entertainment distribution company,

According to Ticketmaster, UniverSoul Circus is one of its top 10 most requested family events.

Walker first started the circus 25 years ago in Atlanta. At the time, he was a concert and theatre promoter.

This year, the Circus Ring of Fame Foundation Incorporation in Florida selected Walker for the 2018 enshrinement to the prestigious Circus Ring of Fame, one of the highest honors reserved for circus arts and culture.

Roy Wilkins is located on Merrick Boulevard between 115th Avenue and 116 Avenue and stretches out to Baisley Boulevard.
