TO THE POINT: 7 new Eagle Scouts honored by Troop 18

Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point.

A heart-warming ceremony took place at the First Reformed Church at 119th Street and 14th Avenue in College Point. The Boy Scouts of College Point, Troops 18 and 20, saluted our veterans with a flag retirement ceremony and a reception.

The three bristling fires burned brightly as each veteran, family and friend took a flag, dedicated it to a veteran or organization and tossed it into the flames. Scout leaders John Nugenbauer and Ed Petersen and co-Leader Jerry Castro explained the meaning of the ceremony and the dedication to the men and women who gave their lives for their country. Pastor William Cameron presided at the ceremony.

I am always ecstatic to be invited to a very special event, Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony, which will be held at St. Fidelis School Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

During this Thanksgiving season, we are thankful for the seven young men who have earned the Boy Scout of America Eagle Award. They have earned their award by following these words and by doing a special project:
