Low profile Bayside special ed program gets funds

A fund-raiser at Caffe on the Green in Bayside on Nov. 16 raised about $25,000 for a state-funded special education program that has been struggling with low enrollment and a low profile, one of its advisers said.

Bill Slow, an adviser for the program, which is run in Bayside and Brooklyn by the Catholic Archdiocese of Brooklyn and Queens, said the Bayside site has suffered because School District 26 does not refer students to the program.
