Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. Many things are taking place in College Point. It seems that wherever there is a plot of land, no matter how small, the excavation begins. Roads, accommodations and facilities are not even considered. The people must be considered first and foremost and this is not the case. Under consideration is another 7-11 on 127th Street and 14th Avenue and a Home Depot. There is a huge Home Depot in Flushing. The Linden Place Road has been in disrepair for the last 11 years. A small community such as College Point does not need all these 24-hour stores. These are invitations for stick-ups and hang-outs and noise in the middle of residential areas.
Condolences to the family of Archie Nelson, who was a bus operator for more than 20 years.
Condolences to the family of Georgette Dusch. Georgette was a loving family person and last year celebrated her golden anniversary with husband, Ray. She was always ready to help daughter Margaret and son-in-law Mike Abel in every endeavor.
Congratulations to Jim Stout, who was promoted to honorary deputy fire chief.

Troop 18, Boy Scouts of America, honored seven of its scouts with a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor. The scouts who have earned scouting's highest award, the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, are: Paul Dispensa, Joseph Lugo, Ralph Marquez, Michael Morris, Joseph Palma, Michael Palma and Thomas Palma. The ceremony was held on Friday, November 26, at St. Fidelis Church. Congressman Joseph Crowley attended the ceremony. To earn scouting's highest award, each of these scouts had to earn 21 merit badges, serve in a leadership position and plan, provide leadership and carry out a service project. The scout's service projects benefited St. Fidelis Church and Poppenhusen Institute. They included a food drive, Christmas gift drive and improvement projects to both institutions
