Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. Winter most certainly has arrived as the snow piles up with a steady force. My grandsons told me to put some in a box and send it out to them in Las Vegas. They just don't get any of their own.
Some important meetings that you must attend follow.
The College Point Civic/Taxpayers Association will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Madonna Room at St. Fidelis R.C. Church basement. I hope to duplicate the wonderful attendance that I had at my last meeting. All politicians will be invited, plus many others, to give updates on the West Nile Virus and the Department of Health's course of action with the coming of spring and the latest on the sports fields and whether or not the children will be able to play on these fields, after waiting for two years.
The Crime Prevention Presentation featuring discussion of con games/scams, pickpockets, burglary and robbery prevention and GLA Prevention Medical Alert highlighted by a blood Pressure screening and diabetes screening. Eileen Murphy has again become a grandma and she could not be happier. Nicholas Christian was 8 pounds, 13 ounces.
A special happy birthday to Laraine Memola, who is presently bringing joy and happiness with special recreation and pet therapy at the Hillside Manor.
Delores and Bob Spitz are looking forward to this summer with great love, as one grandchild is expected in June and another in August.
The following bowled beyond belief at Whitestone Lanes: Debbie Renart, 230, Maureen Pupplo, 215, and 201, Paula Palma 204, Patti McCarthy 221, Angie Ray, 200, and Lorraine Darcy, 211. As you can see, I just write about them.
St. Paul's Church School will be having a fund-raiser Murder Mystery on Saturday, Feb. 12. For reservations, contact the church 762-4100 or Irene Geraudu. The fee is $35 per person.
Congratulations to Debra Markell, who got engaged over the holidays.
Doreen and Michael Cameron had a wonderful holiday with their new son Brandon Evan, as did the grandparents, Rev. William and Nancy Cameron.
If you drive on 11th Avenue at 138th Street, it seems that the slight fencing is ready to give way and all the mounds of dirt are ready to fall upon you. Isn't it about time that this inferior building is inspected thoroughly before an accident occurs?
It was sad enough to see Party Giant close and now Chooz-It is ready to follow suit. The year when 14th Avenue was under construction, it really played havoc with the businesses at the Whitepoint Shopping Center. We hope that this situation will correct itself.
