A Bayside man was arrested March 1 after he confessed to a string of sexual attacks in the area over the past several months, said Community Affairs Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Police Precinct.

Mark Prosetti, 25, of 42-36 201st St. in Bayside, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday and charged with four counts of sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, public lewdness and harassment, Detective Edward Reuss said.

Lombardi said Prosetti was arrested after he allegedly approached a 15-year-old girl walking on Francis Lewis Boulevard from behind and attempted to force himself on her sexually. The girl was on her way to school, Lombardi said.

The victim fought her attacker, who fled northbound on Francis Lewis Boulevard before he was arrested by Detective Wayne Jeans of the 111th Precinct's detective squad.

After he was arrested, Lombardi said, Prosetti confessed to attacking five other women.

Reuss said the pattern of sexual abuse occurred between October 1999 and March. The victims were approached from behind, he said, and they ranged in age from 9 to 49 years old.
