I hope the grass and the bulbs got jealous and are hurriedly blooming.
The St. Patrick's Dance at the St. Ambrose Council was a lilting success. The food was great as were the live musicians. Mary and Leo Nicholas were delightful dancers and Mary has a cute Irish brogue. Grateful thanks to Tim O'Donnell and his wife Dolly for a wonderful evening. Even I felt like a leprechaun.
Attend the annual Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast and them support the Youth Programs of College Point, Sun., March 26, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 22-38 College Point Blvd. Cost is $4 per person and there is no charge for children under 6. The chefs are Vinny Zaino and son, Phil LaFurno and with the help from each and every one of you who come to breakfast, we will continue to support the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League and other youth groups of College Point, said Grand Knight Rocco Cardali. On Tues., April 11, at 7:30 p.m., St. Anne's Society will be holding a penny auction in the Madonna Room, St. Fidelis church basement. Free admission. Come one, come all.
The College Point Citizen's Memorial Day Parade Committee's next meeting will be on Thursday, March 16, 7 p.m. at the VFW Post. We certainly can use more people to help in this endeavor. As you know, this parade has gotten bigger.
The 22nd Annual Queens Half-Marathon (13.1) miles and the 10th Annual Skaggs-Walsh 5K road race are scheduled for Sat., April 15. The starting time for the Skaggs-Walsh 5K Run is 8 a.m. and starting time of the Queens Half-Marathon (13.1) miles is 8:10 A.M. This year's Queens Half-Marathon has been selected as part of the New York Roadrunners Team championship series where points are earned for the top men and women finishers. The College Point Board of Trade is awarding two $250 scholarships for the first full-time male and female students who reside in College Point or Malba who finish the 5K run. The 5K run is for those runners/walkers who have not yet graduated to the longer distance. National Sporting goods P.A. will have a sale and exhibit of running shoes and clothes at the event. Two-thousand dollars in prize money will be given to the top three male and female finishers of the Half-Marathon. The major sponsor for both events is Skaggs-Walsh Fuel Co., located in College Point. Free refreshments are provided for all participants. A Carnival Cruise Line Presentation takes place on Wed., April 5, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall, 22-38 College Point Blvd. Representatives from Carnival will give a presentation on cruises leaving from New York and other places. All are invited. Coffee and cake will be served.
The Ret-Set will meet on March 22 and Dexter and Doris will show slides of their recent trip to Spain. Pastor and Mrs. Cameron will be special guests.
A Farewell for Pastor and Mrs. Cameron Banquet is being held on March 18, 4-8 p.m. at Grand Bay Marina. Pastor Cameron's last service at the First Reformed Church will be on March 26, 10 a.m. Coffee Hour will follow at 11 a.m. The Guild is sponsoring.
The census is taken every 10 years. The next census will be taken on April 1, 2000. All citizens and non-citizens alike must be counted. This information is confidential. The law prohibits the disclosure and sharing of information with any other government agency. The information taken from the census determines the number of representatives from your community who will represent you in Congress. The census date helps to determine the distribution of federal dollars in the community for everything from planning schools and building roads to providing recreational opportunities and managing health services. Your questionnaires must be filled out.
The College Point Security Patrol, in conjunction with the 109th Precinct, sent many members out for several days to investigate if there were any more hate stickers around and they are happy to report that none were spotted. Also, several residents were contacted and they have not seen any stickers either.
The College Point Civic/Taxpayers Assn., Inc. and the College Point Security Patrol are in close contact with Dr. Miller of the Health Department. A flier from them has been distributed regarding the West Nile virus. You are cautioned to remove all sources of standing water like tires, pails, pots, gutters, bird baths (change water daily). Be on the lookout for dead birds. Put them in a plastic bag with a gloved hand and attach a note with the location where you found the bird and call us at 718-886-0938. It will be picked up and Dr. Miller of the Health Department will be contacted.

The Queens Chamber of Commerce had a delightful St. Patrick's Day Luncheon at Terrace on the Park featuring the NYC Police Department Ceremonial Unit, as well as the Emerald Society pipes and drums. In addition, the Hirten family Irish Dancers, Irish Tenor, Jimmy Walsh will perform.
Blessings to Cardinal O'Connor, as he receives the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest civilian honor.
Congratulations to Pajeans Wild Thing, an 18 month-old Persian Cat from Baton Rouge, who came in first at the International Cat Show at Madison Square Garden. Its owner is Pam Bassett.
It is always nice seeing Charlotte and Alan Leff at my meetings and it was nice meeting Charles Kyriakoudes, president of the Malba Association.
Pastor William Cameron had a special christening: his Grandson, Brandon, at the First Reformed Church. Parents are Doreen and Michael. The guests had a joyous time at the College Point Yacht Club.
Eileen Murphy was anxiously awaiting the christening of her grandson, Nicholas Christian, in Staten Island. Blessings to Nicholas on his day.
