Arrested man had hate literature: Police

Police arrested a College Point man last Thursday after finding a loaded AK-47 rife, ammunition and SS memorabilia at his 127th Street home in the second of two bias cases that have rocked northeast Queens in the past two weeks.

Around the same time, the mayor joined with Queens District Attorney Richard Brown and other city law enforcement officials to unveil a new hate crime initiative.

Michael Sagginario, 20, of 20-45 127th St. was arrested last Thursday morning on a variety of weapons possession charges within hours of the arrests of two suspects in a brutal March 26 bias beating in Auburndale of two Hispanic brothers.

Deputy Inspector James Waters of the 109th Precinct said Sagginario had been on parole for blowing up equipment at the closed Flushing Airport in the mid-1990s.
