More than $320 million for the cleanup of Long Island Sound was secured last week when the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Long Island Sound Restoration Act.
The bill, introduced by Reps. Gary Ackerman (D-Bayside), Rick Lazio (R-Long Island) and Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.) in November, provides $80 million over each of the next four years to counteract the effects of pollution in the sound, which is bordered by Queens, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut.
