Boro Board evaluates BQE construction

By Peter Sorkin

The current traffic problems created by work on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway may cause headaches for some weary Queens drivers, but prolonging its repair would endanger their safety, a civil engineer says.

At a Queens Borough Board meeting Monday afternoon, city Department of Transportation engineer James Wilson said the $130 million project will take 3 1/2 years to complete because traffic must be kept moving and at least one lane will be kept open at all times. Lanes will only be closed at off-peak hours.
