West Nile virus was found in mosquitoes trapped by the city Health Department in Glen Oaks late last month, the agency said last Thursday, but there were no plans for additional pesticide spraying in the area as of Friday.
Spokesman John Gadd said no spraying was scheduled because the mosquitoes with West Nile were found on July 22, two days before the first round of insecticides blanketed the city on July 24.
The announcement about the virus in Glen Oaks coincided with a request from Gov. George Pataki to President Clinton for more federal assistance to help cover the cost of battling West Nile.
