Wilbur Garces, 30, of 84-29 101st St., and his 14-year-old passenger, Brian Edguardo of 330 Lincoln Ave. in Brooklyn, were found dead in the car shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, said Cadet John Sammarco, a police spokesman.

Police Tuesday night roped off several blocks surrounding the intersection of 101st Street and 84th Avenue just south of Forest Park near Freedom Drive, where the shootings took place. After midnight, the area was still cordoned off and police remained at the scene into the early morning.

Detectives from the 102nd Precinct were still investigating the murders Wednesday morning and had not made any arrests.

The neighborhood where the incident took place is made up of blocks of small, frame houses in southern Richmond Hill, a few blocks from Victory Field, where children ride bikes and senior citizens sit on benches along the quiet streets.

Neighbors said they were shocked at the turn of events Tuesday night. Some, including a few teenagers, ran outside their homes to see what had happened after they saw the story on the evening news.

Jesus and Gladis Alvarado, a couple who live nearby on 102nd Street, said they heard about 12 shots ring out at around 8:30 p.m.
