The proposed buildings would be constructed at the vacant lot which is bordered by Merrick Boulevard to the east, 166th Street to the West, 107th Avenue to the north, and Hendrickson Avenues to the south. The lot is city-owned property, the site every summer of an outdoor gospel revival sponsored by the New Greater Bethel Ministries, based in Cambria Heights.
While most board members backed the measure at the Sept. 20 meeting because of the great need for senior housing in the area, many thought the proposed location for the buildings was too close to the Metropolitan Transit Authorities Bus Depot, which is just across the street.
