The Flushing YMCA, 38-46 Northern Blvd., holds its annual Halloween Fright Night for families, featuring a haunted house, arts and crafts, trick or treating in the building, movie time for young and older, costume contests, gym activities, and dancing on Sat., Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fee: $5. 718-961-6880
Also on Oct. 28, the Cross Island YMC, 238-10 Hillside Ave. in Bellerose, offers a family spooky night from 7 to 9 p.m., and for teens 9:30 to 11 p.m. Free to Y members and guests. Call 718-479-0505.
Have a hauntingly good time at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which will present two days of “Mad Science Halloween” on Saturday, Oct. 28, and Sunday, Oct. 29. From noon to 3:30, learn how things glow in the dark, solve a whodunit mystery, and create scary sound effects in the Glow Gallery of Haunted Hall, as mad scientists perform weird science experiments.
Make flapping bats, glow skeletons and a magic box at the Spooky Science “Make It and Take It” Workshop from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. $1- $2.50 materials fee.
Kick up some sparks with Vinny Voltage, a science educator from the New York City Transit Museum, and check out the strange transformations lurking in the world of science at the Science Transformations show. (Saturday afternoon at 1, 2, and 3 in the auditorium.)
Touch live, creepy creatures and make a slithery-snake mobile with Richard Meyer from the Long Island Herpetological (that's reptile science) Society, visiting with his cold-blooded friends at the Creepy Crawlers Show. Admission: $2 per person. Call 699-0005 for more information.
At the Queens County Farm Museum, (7350 Little Neck Pkwy.), take a hay wagon ride to a haunted barn complete with a winding maze inside and scary things throughout. (The 40-or-so-minute experience is not recommended for children under 5).
The scary goings-on are Oct. 27-31. Reservations are required – call 343-2005. $5 admission; Groups of 20 or more – $4.50 each person.
The King Manor Museum, 150-03 Jamaica Ave., will host a Halloween Special on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 28 and 29, including tours through a spook-ified mansion. Reservations required. Call 206-0545.
The Alley Pond Environmental Center, 228-06 Northern Blvd., offers a “Teeny Tiny Trick-or-Treater” for children ages 2 to 4 at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. the event includes a special carnival for little ones to create a not-so-scary craft, play Halloween games, decorate a haunted pumpkin cookie, and more. Members $2, non-members $8.
At 7:15 that evening, there will be a haunted walk for kids ages 5 and up. This activity will send you scurrying back to a campfire where APEC ghosts and goblins will tell horrifying Halloween tales. Goodies will be provided. Bring a flashlight, a ghost story, and lots of courage. $4 for members, $6 for non-members. Adults ($2) must accompany children. Garden World at 46th Avenue and Francis Lewis Boulevard offers a Haunted House Walk-Through. Admission is $3.50; children under 5 are admitted free. See monsters and ghouls portrayed by live (or are they?) actors. The hours through Oct. 31 are Friday, 5 to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 224-6789.
The Queens Symphony Orchestra presents its Halloween Family Day Concert at the Colden Center for the performing Arts at 65-30 Kissena Blvd. in Flushing on Sunday Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. There will be music for kids, special effects, surprise spooky guests and performers, and a costume contest for kids. Ghouls and goblins will taunt children at the Haunted House at the YMCA on Hillside Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 28. Children from 1 to 11 years old are invited into the darkness from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; kids 12 and older can test their courage from 9 to 11 p.m.
Queens Botanical Garden offers a Haunted Greenhouse. Visitors can tip-toe through the decorated garden, accompanied by creatures nature never intended. The best-costumed children will be awarded prizes for creativity. Call 718-886-3800 for more information.
