Sponsored by the Long Island City Business Development Corporation, the breakfast last Thursday was a chance for Levy, who is completing his fourth month of his three-year term as chancellor, to enlist support from the business sector.
Levy took a leave of absence from his job as a corporate attorney for Citigroup to accept the chancellor position and has stressed his management skills in steering the school system.
About 50 representatives from community organizations and business interests citywide, as well as groups from the Long Island City and Astoria areas, attended the breakfast at the Citibank building in Long Island City.
Levy compared managing the public school system to running a huge corporation, where the product is student performance.
