As Queens College continues the development of its elementary-laboratory school, PS 499, disturbing remarks and letters to the editor continue to appear around the use of Public School 219, a District 25 elementary school located near the Queens College Campus.
Community School District 25 reitarates its unanimously approved statement, expressed through resolution for a second time at its meeting of Oct. 14, 2000, that at no time would Community School Board 25 consider relinquishing Public School 219.
As the community school board continues to work to serve our communities' children, we want to make clear to all concerned that the needs of the children of Community School District 25 will always have priority over the needs of other organizations. The board, District 25 superintendent and staff, school administrators, staff, parents and local community have a strong commitment to the education of our children and we will continue to work together to protect the most essential of all resources … space.
We wish Queens College well as they create a laboratory school for the college; however, we wish also to remind everyone involved in this issue that all schools in Community School District 25, and in particular Public School 219, will continue as District 25 schools, providing the essential space needed for the education of our children.
