Diana Lutzak…
The Our Lady of the Snows 5th-grade volleyball team came out on top, having played three exciting games against Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Saturday. OLS won the first and third games, 15-11 and 15-4, while OLMC won the second game, 15-3.
Diana Lutzak led off the scoring with five first serve points. Upon regaining serve, Erica DellaJacono reeled off nine more points. OLMC then scored six straight points before the serve was broken, with Ashley Frangella scoring the winning point for OLS in the first game.
OLMC came back in the second game and would have recorded a shut out, if not for Lyana Labrada scoring two points and Tina Khiani adding one point. Despite the score, both teams kept the ball in the air for some great volleys.
The OLS team came back in game three. Lyana Labrada started off the OLS scoring with eight unanswered points. Erica DellaJacono and Ashley Frangella each had two points, while Tina Khiani, Emily Pennachio and Rebecca Spitz added one point each, with Spitz getting the winning point. Kristina Mosquito and Melissa Lyons rounded out the team’s defensive effort.
