Jesse Halpern Skate and Tennis 8, McCann's Rollers 2. In the season opener for the Minor Division, Jesse Halpern skated away with their first win. Travis Lippert led the way, scoring four goals, Spiros Markopolous scored a hat trick, Thomas Doheny added one goal and two assists and Jonathan Jimenez had two assists. First timer Nick Veljacich played a great game and Jason Becker made some spectacular saves between the pipes. For McCann’s Rollers, Jim McCann made some terrific stops in his debut protecting the net.

McCann’s Rollers 8, ReMax Universal 1. McCann’s Rollers bounced back from its opening day loss to defeat ReMax Universal. McCann’s came on strong in the first period, taking a 4-1 lead. McCann’s goals came off the sticks of Jimmy and Sean McCann, both scoring hat tricks, and Tam Ngo and Kevin Kasparian each contributing a goal. Remax’s lone goal was provided by Jeffrey Johnston, assisted by Alexi Malo.

Major Division

Point Furniture 7, Corona Park Pork Store 6. The Major Division’s opening game was an exciting, even contest between Point Furniture and Corona Park that went down to the last 30 seconds of the game, resulting in a 7-6 victory for Point Furniture. Steven Mare played strong in goal, forcing Sal Pinto to take a virtually perfect shot with 26 seconds left to secure the victory for Point Furniture. CoronaPark’s goals were scored by Keith Lippert, Danny Cochran, and Willie Yumet, each with two. Some of the younger players just up from the Minors and a little nervous about playing in the Majors, Ariel DiPasquale, Alex Doulaveris, Paul Giacomino, Johnny Pagano, and Anthony Yacovone, also did quite well. For Point Furniture, Sal Pinto scored four goals, Anthony Binanti contributed a goal and an assist and O’Toole and Moran each provided a goal. Vinny Diasparra was strong protecting the net.

Venezia Tile 8, Gary Mann Production 5. Gary Mann Production took an early first period 2-0 lead, but was unable to hold off the comeback of Venezia Tile. For Gary Mann, Ed Johnston had two goals and two assists and Robert Schule, Michael McCann and Joe May each scored a goal. Venezia was led by Jimmy Raymond and Jimme Brady, Derek LaMacchia and Chris Marzano, with two goals each.

Senior Division

Pizza Chef 5, Transcreen 3. Pizza Chef, led by Steve Whelan with three goals, defeated Transcreen in a tight game. David Cho and Matt Valinoti also scored for Pizza Chef. Transcreen’s offense was provided by Kenny McCrorie, with one assist and two goals, while Matt Novak added a goal and an assist.
