Statewide 6, NY Party Plaza 3. Statewide upset previously unbeaten NY Party Plaza behind the hat trick of Andrew Kuhnle and two goals of Larry appell. Danny Ngo scored his first goal of the season by hustling and playing two-way hockey. Goalie Greg Siroky of Statewide had a shutout into the third period.
Transcreen 4, Sambucci Brothers 1. In a hard-fought battle Transcreen defeated Sambucci Brothers, 4-1. The game was scoreless at the end of the first period. Transcreen scored three unanswered goals in the second period off the sticks of Cory McGrath (2) and James Justice. Kenny McCrorie scored the final goal on a penalty shot when Smbucci was assessed a bench penalty for too many men on the ice with less than two minutes left in the game. Eric Gunn and Joey Somers played strong two-way games for Transcreen. Anthony Mainolfi scored the lone goal for Sambucci. Keith Smith and Paul Semenkewitz played well for Sambucci. Goalies Chris Rodriguez (Transcreen) and Mike Giacomino (Sambucci) again kept their teams in the game with excellent play between the pipes.
Pizza Chef 10, Transcreen 3. Pizza Chef beat a tough Transcreen team, 10-3, behind the offense of Jonathan Kupferschmidt and Matt Lavanco, who each had a hat trick. Defensemen Phil McGrory and Steve Whelan also contributed goals while playing great defense. Strong games were played by Tim Caffrey, Marcus Britto, Anthony DiFalco and David Cho. Rob DiMasi, as usual, had a strong game in goal with many spectacular saves. Scoring for Transcreen were Matt Novak, James Justice and Cory McGrath.
Major Division
Beat the Clock 12, Corona Park Pork Store 5. Paul Giacomino valiantly defended the net for Corona Park in his first attempt playing goalie and had a rather remarkable performance to keep Corona park within range for most of the game. Goals were contributed by Keith Lippert (3), Anthony Yacovone (1), and Douglas Glendenning (1), who scored his first of the season.
Venezia Tile 10, Gary Mann Productions 4. Gary Mann Productions came out blasting on scores by KeyanaSarikhani and Elias Natsiolaris, assisted by Ed Johnston and Mike McCann to jump on Venezia Tile, 2-0, but Venezia Tile got up off the floor on goals by TomMonte and Derrick Lamacchia, assisted by Diana Sommers, to even the score 2-2 at the end first period. Venezia Tile floored Gary Mann Productions in the second period on scores by Steven McGrory, Jimmy Raymond (2), and Jimmy Brady (2), to take a 9-2 lead. In the third period, backed by the strong play of Matt Brady and Paul Masi, Gary Mann Productions began making a comeback on scores by Joe May and Robert Schule, but Venezia Tile answered back with Mark DeBernardo netting one goal and Tom Monte two goals for the hat trick, with assists by Sean O’Saughnessy, Diana Sommers and Jimmy Raymond.
Beat The Clock Printing 11, Gary Mann Productions 6. Beat The Clock Printing teamed up to script an 11-6 win over Gary Mann Productions. Beat The Clock’s Sam Sieger, Paul Giantempo, Kevin Kelley, Jimmy Carleo (2) and Zack Sieger (2) all chimed in with scores, assisted by Chris Weiss, Tom Mehmet (2) and Mike Zilber, to stroke a 7-2 lead over Gary Mann by the end of the second period. But the music didn’t die as Gary Mann recorded a few more hits on goals by Guy Seminerio (2), Mike McCann and Robert Schule (3), assisted by Joe May (2). In the third period, despite the excellent play and fine effort put forth by Gary Mann’s fearsome foursome of Elias and Steven Natsiolaris and Kevin and Mike Conklin, the final chapter was written by Beat The Clock Printing on goals by Jimmy Carleo and another by Chris Weis to end the story.
Gary Mann Productions 8, Corona Park Pork Store 6. After a brief intermission, Gary Mann Production and Corona Park Pork took to the stage and belted out the hits, as Corona Park took a 2-1 lead on goals by Danny Cochran and Willie Yumet over the loan score by Gary Mann’s Ed Johnston by the end of first period. In the second, Corona Park cooked up two more scores by Alex Doulaveris and Anthony Yacavone, assisted by Danny Cochran and JohnPagano, but Gary Mann Productions answered back with Robert Schule, Guy Seminerio and Joe May (2) all hitting the net and Ed Johnston assisting, staking Gary Mann to a 5-4 lead. Propelled by the outstanding defensive play of Paul Masi, Keyana Sarikhani, Matt Brady and Elias Natsiolaris in the third period, Gary Mann Production topped the charts on scores from Mike McCann and Ed Johnston (3), assisted by Robert Schule and Joe May, to offset scores by Corona Park Pork’s Keith Lippert and Danny Cochran, assisted by John Pagano, as Gary Mann came away with a 8-6 victory.
Corona Park Pork Store 12, Point Furniture 4. Under conditions more conducive to baseball than to hockey, Corona Park and Point Furniture battled the heat and each other in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. Some astonishing saves by goalie Steven Mare, along with four-goal performances by Anthony Yacovone and Danny Cochran, enabled the eight Corona Park players who braved the summer-like weather to secure a commanding victory. The team returned to its old form of strong defense, unselfish passing and smart positional play to dominate the game from beginning to end. Impressive contributions were also made by Johnny Pagano ( two goals, two assist), Douglas Glendenning (one goal) and Willie Yumet (one goal), along with the strong defensive play of Alex Doulaveris and Keith Lippert.
Minor Division
Jesse Halpern Skate & Tennis Shop 6, Erin's Isle 5. Erin's Isle came out strong, taking an early 3-0 lead, but Jesse Halpern scored two quick goals to end the firstst period down 3-2. Jesse Halpern ttook the lead, 5-3, before Erin's Isle scored two to knot the score at 5. Jesse Halpern applied the pressure when Travis Lippert scored the game-winning goal with 18 ticks left on the clock. Thomas Doheny showed great hustle with two goals. Jonathan Jimenez, Nick Natsiolaris and Andrew Doheny were fast on their skates attacking the Isle's defense, and Evan Katz controlled the defensive end, and also scored a goal and had an assist.
Mass Electric 4, Jesse Halpern Skate & Tennis Shop 2. On a beautiful Mother’s Day, Mass Electric edged out Jesse Halpern, 4-2, in a defensive battle. For Jesse Halpern, first-time goaltender Alex Palazzolo did a magnificent job making many tough saves, Jason Becker made some beautiful passes on the wing and Jonathan Jimenez and Nick Veljacich attacked the puck well. Dimitrios Savva, Spiros Markopolous and Albert Markopolous played great defense and Travis Lippert bulged the twine twice for the two Jesse Halpern goals.
McCann’s Rollers 4, Erin’s Isle 4. Jimmy McCann provided all four goals for McCann’s Rollers, assisted by brothers Tam and Quan Ngo. For Erin’s Isle, Evan Kundrat scored twice, while Meaghan Callahan and Connor Browne each contributed a goal.
Mass Electric 7, McCann’s Rollers 3. Mass Electric came out electrified, taking a 4-0 lead on goals by Luke Serkanic (hat trick), Patrick Schule (2) and Alex Chateau. Ray Rosa also contributed a goal for Mass Electric. Jimmy McCann, assisted by Jack Joyce, and JJ Cormejo provided the offense for McCann’s Rollers.
