FLUSHING — A 77-year-old woman crossing at an intersection near New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens with her son was fatally struck Tuesday night by a truck that was making a lefthand turn onto Main Street, police said.
Ruth Weingarten of Forest Hills was crossing at the intersection of Booth Memorial Avenue and Main Street near the hospital around 8 p.m. when she was hit, said Detective Theresa Farello, a police spokeswoman. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, but her son was not injured, Farello said.
No summonses were issued, and no arrests were made, the detective said.
Lindenwood woman injured by assailant at her front door
LINDENWOOD — A 72-year-old woman was injured Tuesday morning when a man forced his way into her Cohancy Street apartment and assaulted her, police said.
The woman answered a knock on her door around 11:30 a.m., and the assailant pushed her inside, said Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman.
The woman was forced down, but managed to break free and run into the street after the man, Cox said.
The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she was treated and released for a injury to her right arm, police said.
Man stabbed in buttocks while waiting for No. 7 train
WOODSIDE — A 26-year-old man was stabbed once in the buttocks last Thursday while waiting on the 61st Street station of the No. 7 line, police said.
The victim was taken from the subway station to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was in stable condition Friday, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman.
Police were investigating.
20-year-old woman raped on Jamaica rooftop: Cops
JAMAICA — A 20-year-old woman was raped in the vicinity of 89th Avenue Tuesday night, the police said.
Around 6:45 p.m., the woman, who was not identified, was taken to the roof of a building by a man in his 40s and raped, said Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman.
Because of the nature of the crime, the police declined to provide the exact location of the building.
Alabama man accused of robbing Astoria bank
ASTORIA — A man from Alabama was arrested Friday morning, charged with robbing a bank on Steinway Street, police said.
The robbery happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday at Banco Popular at Steinway Street and 28th Street, said Officer Gary Cillo, a police spokesman.
Joseph Kermit Emerson was accused of holding up employees at gunpoint and stealing cash, police said.
Emerson, 28, was arrested by a police officer assigned to the Transit Division of the Police Department, Cillo said.
Disabled elderly man missing from S. Jamaica
SOUTH JAMAICA — A 77-year-old wheelchair-bound man was reported missing May 10, police said.
John Biddle was last seen in front of his house at 148-11 Sutter Ave. in South Jamaica boarding an Access-A-Ride van bound for the Queens Family Medical Center at 37-11 Queens Blvd., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Biddle is black, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 208 pounds, wears glasses and has a scar over his left eye. He recently suffered a stroke, Chew said.
He was last seen wearing a black sweater, gray shirt, black pants, silver watch and yellow chain with a cross pendant, Chew said.
111th Police Precinct to offer VIN etching
DOUGLASTON — The 111th Police Precinct was scheduled to hold a vehicle identification number etching and other crime prevention programs at St. Anastasia School in Douglaston on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In the program, police, for free, burn a car’s VIN into the individual windows, making it harder to resell parts of the car if stolen.
Community Affairs Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Police said drivers who take advantage of VIN etching often get a reduction on their car insurance.
St. Anastasia’s is on Northern Boulevard at 245th Street.
