Helping children with school: Accept homework, it is essential. Influence of adults must outweigh that of friend when it comes to school. Cut back on sports if they interfere with schoolwork. Limit TV time and curtail weekday jobs during the school year.

My husband planted new flowers, put a little wooden fence around our tree and all of a sudden, huge mushrooms began to appear. The birds are eying them to eat but I am afraid they may be poisonous and I have been picking them up and throwing them away.
It is so wonderful to have fresh, juicy peaches grown by my neighbor, George Tsai.
SABINA SAYS: Rocco and I have been celebrating our 41st anniversary for several days. It started with a fantastic dinner at Caffe on the Green that our family in Las Vegas had arranged to surprise us. This restaurant is a little bit of heaven with extremely beautiful landscaped surroundings. Joe Franco, owner, keeps it that way. While there, we met Stephanie and John Kubick who were celebrating their 59th anniversary. We invited them for cake and coffee at our table. They were sure a delight and told us that they had three sons: Stephen in College Point, John in Bayside and Richard in Flushing. We were then feted at Patrick’s Pub in Bayside by Mabel McAuliffe — and that was a delight.
