Oratorio Society Of Queens, under the artistic direction of David Close, invites singers to join in the 75th anniversary celebration of our group. Weekly rehearsals will begin Monday, Jan., 7 at 7:45 pm in the North Presbyterian Church, 154th Street and 26th Avenue in Flushing. No choral experience is necessary. Prospective members must be able to carry a tune and have a simple listening audition. Newcomers are requested to arrive at 7:30. Dan Slapo, well known representational artist with 3S years as an instructor has brought his drawing & painting class to the NAL. Korean Popular Music and Dance by the Korean Performing Art Center will start at 1:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Korean traditional and popular music and dance will be exquisitely blended. At 2 p.m., children will be enchanted as Soh Young Lee-Segredo weaves Korean Mask Dance, Songs and Storytelling, in Areas A&B. Join in as Soh Young reads Older Brother-Younger Brother, The Rabbits and A Tiger, and Korean Cinderella. She will also perform a mask dance and will sing “Arirang,” a traditional Korean folk song. Finally. at 3 p.m., the Nori Company of New York will dazle the audience with Korean Music and Rituals when master percussionists combine the rhythms of Korean farmers bands traveling troupes with shamanistic ceremony and modern composition. 718-990-0891.
Adventure on a Shoestring has scheduled a snacks and sights safari of Astoria, the world’s largest Greek City outside Greece. The tour will be lead by Howard Goldberg, Shoestring’s president and founder who will discuss Greek food customs and traditions and relate the area’s fascinating history and exciting present. The Grigorovich Ballet Company will perform Spartacus, a ballet in three acts that beautifully enacts an uprising of gladiators and slaves against ancient Rome, at Queensborough Community College on Sun., Jan., 6 at 3 p.m., the Ballet will be performed to an exciting theatrical score by Aram Khachaturian, bringing to vivid life the distinctive Spartacus and the corrupt Crassus who personify the collision of two worlds. Join the diverse and dedicated group of men and women who help enrich our Queens community, become a Queens Museum of Art volunteer! No experience is necessary. All it takes is a cheerful personality, team spirit, and one morning or afternoon a week. The museum staff provides all training and supports. Benefits include free admission to the QMA as well as many cultural institutions around New York City. If you have an interest in education, art and children, consider becoming a museum decent. A decent is a trained museum interpreter who conducts participatory tours for children grades K through 6 on one morning per week, focusing on the museum's permanent and changing exhibitions.
