Ferreira earns men’s soccer regional All-American honors

By The TimesLedger

Freshman David Ferreira of Manhattanville College and the Little Neck-Douglaston Youth Club became the first soccer player from his college men’s soccer program to be named regional All- American this fall. Ferreira played soccer at Little Neck from the age of 5, starting with the intramural program and progressing to play travel with the Little Neck-Douglaston Dragons, which he led from Division 7 at under 10, to Division 1 at under 19, collecting three division championships, three sportsmanship awards, the Waldbaums Cup and a run into the A playoffs in the USA Cup in Minnesota along the way.

Ferreira was a first team All-Skyline Conference selection after totaling 23 points this season on eight goals and seven assists. His 23 points placed him third overall on the team and led all rookies on the team. In the Valiants’ 1-0 overtime win at Stevens Tech, Ferreira took a pass at 65 yards out, dribbled through four Duck defenders and fired a shot into the upper right corner from 25 yards out for his third game-winning goal of the season.

Ferreira will return from college to play for the U19 Little Neck-Douglaston Jaguars this Spring, hoping to win a State Cup, the only prize to elude his team during its LIJSL career.
