By The TimesLedger

Instructional / Rookie Division

The young RGMVM Grey team joined together to play in the Moser Tournament over the Memorial Day weekend. The RGMVM Grey’s really came together as a team in a very short period of time. Everyone should be extremely proud of this group.

The Grey’s played three games over the tournament, taking two out of three decisions. The Grey’s received some tremendous pitching over the course of the tournament. The Grey’s were led by Rookie Flame thrower Joey Byrnes. Joey pitched six innings over the course of the tournament, striking out 18 hitters along the way. The Grey’s also got some strong pitching from Rookie lefthander Nick and Rookie right-hander Chris Betz.

The Big surprise for the Grey’s were the young dynamic duo of pitchers from the Instructional Division, Chris Piteo and Robbie Hofmann. Chris pitched four solid innings over the course of the tournament, striking out 10 batters along the way. Robbie pitched three solid innings over the course of the tournament striking out eight batters along the way.

The Grey’s received some strong play from Rookie catcher Mike Zdazerski, who did a great job of handling the young pitchers. Mike also pounded a Grand Slam in the championship game. Young Jonathon Murphy also provided plenty of offensive punch over the tournament. It was a great experience for the young players and they did a tremendous job.

Instructional Division

In a great game between the Tigers and the Giants, Chris Piteo and Ryan Dibiase went 3-for-3 to lead the Giants. Chris also made couple of key plays on the field. The Tigers were led by fantastic glove work from Matt Betkowski, who turned a double play, and Dylan Lanigan, Patrick Gibbons and Frank Amrano also played stellar defense. As far as hitting went for the Tigers, the following players all went 3-for-3: Alex Villano, Joseph Mione, Devin Coy, Michael Ferro and Frank Armano. Not to be forgotten is the rest of the players from both teams who contributed to a great game on both dugouts. But what made this game great was the atmosphere. Payers, coaches and parents all knew each other from schools, church or the neighborhood and made it a great night for Little League baseball and sportsmanship.

Assemblyman Michael Cohen’s Mets

The Amazin’ Mets were at it again on a chilly night at Seither Stadium. The Mets came out swinging, led by their veteran leaders Matt Fox (5-for-5), Brett Buser (5-for-5) Robbie Hofmann (4-for-4), Jonathon Murphy (3-for-4), Nicky Caruana (4-for-4) and Vincent Difinizio (4-for-4).
