Bayside boy takes 2nd place

By The TimesLedger

Bayside’s 7-year-old Kevin Reilly attended the U.S. Open Golf Tournament at Bethpage State Park two weeks ago. He got to see his favorite golf players up close. Kevin was able to get some autographs from David Duval, Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, and a picture with V.J. Singh. The highlight of his day was when Tiger Woods came on to the golf course. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Tiger is his favorite player.

The following week Kevin had a championship to play in of his own. He would travel 1,000 miles to Quincy Ill. to compete in the 2002 Pepsi Little Peoples Golf Championship. On June 18 and 19 he competed with 60 children from all over the United States and as far away as Hawaii. This year Kevin played a great two rounds of golf. The first day he shot a 19 for five holes, which put him in a tie for second place for the day and only one shot off the lead. The next day in the final round he shot a 20 for a two day total of 39, which gave him second place in the tournament. Kevin received a $200 scholarship and the second place trophy.

Next stop for Kevin is the U.S Kids World Golf Championship in July. He will also play this summer in the Metropolitan PGA Junior Golf Association tour on Long Island. Then he will finish with Nike Camp in August to end the golf season.
