Senior Division
Transcreen 10, Rudy’s Bakery 6. Team Transcreen eliminated Rudy’s Bakery, 10-6, and entered the trophy round. Rudy’s Marcos Brito scored first with an unassisted goal four minutes into the game. Transcreen’s Willie Yumet, assisted by Sarah Cooley, and Paul Cooley, assisted by Keith Smith, answered back to take a 2-1 lead. With 1:20 left in the first period, Marcos Brito tied the score at 2-2. In the second period, Rudy’s took the lead with a goal off the stick of Ed Johnston. Transcreen answered with two goals by Matt Novak and a goal by Keith Lippert. Rudy’s Steven Whelan buried the biscuit and Transcrren’s Paul Cooley and Keith Smith followed with two quick goals. With 4:40 left in the period, Steve Whelan found the back of the net to end the period at 7-5 in favor of Team Transcreen. Rudy’s Ed Johnston scored early in the third period to put his team within a goal, but Transcreen’s Andrew Kuhnle lit the scoreboard with three goals within a 1:10 to clinch the game for Transcreen.
Pizza Chef 7, Central City Bagels 3. Pizza Chef earned the right to battle Team Transcreen for the championship by defeating Central City Bagels, 7-3. Bagels took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Cory McGrath and Jimmy Brady. The second period belonged to Pizza Chef with four unanswered goals by Tommy Werthmuller, Anthony DiFalco, Kenny McCrorie and Keith Cropper. Bagel’s Anthony Mainolfi scored a short-handed goal to start the third period, only to see Pizza Chef put the game out of reach with two goals by Tommy Werthmuller and a goal by Danny Sambucci.
Minor Division
ReMax 15, Erin’s Isle 6. In a game that was close through the second period, the David & Nancy Legaz – ReMax Universal Team defeated Erin’s Isle, 15-6. For Erin’s, Ricky Callahan led the offense with a hat trick, Nick Steriaros scored two goals and Gregory Cassimos contributed a goal. ReMax was led by Jeffrey Johnston with five goals, Evan Katz four goals, Christian Kenny’s hat trick and Paul Giantiempo, David Legaz and Grdovic with a goal apiece.
Mass Electric 10, Flowers By Peter 7. Flowers By Peter made a valiant effort to battle the powerful Mass Electric, but fell short 10-7. Flowers took an early 2-0 lead in the first period with two goals by Evan Kundrat (four goals). Mass Electric’s Ray Rosa (five goals) and Patrick Schule (four goals) took over. However, Flowers refused to quit and came within one goal late in the third period, but came up short. Also providing the offense for Flowers were Travis Lippert, Michael Cheeseman and Veljacvich. Joe Tully also scored for Mass Electric. Team ReMax and Mass Electric will battle in the championship round.
Major Division
ReAction Auto 7-1 Venezia Tile 2-3. ReAction Auto and Venezia Tile are competing in the championship round of their division. They each won their respective games in the first round to challenge for the DG Cup. ReAction took the first game 7-2 with goals by John Dujmovic (four goals), Zack Sieger two goals) and Elias Laris. Venezia’s Derek LaMacchia and Chris McCrorie found the back of the net.
In the second game, the teams fought a terrific defensive battle with Venezia Tile coming out on top. Venezia’s Derek LaMacchia, Chris Marzano and Alex Doulevaris buried the biscuit. ReAction’s lone goal came off the stick of Chris Weis.
The series is down to its final game. The winner will carry the DG Cup.
