If you thought HBO’s hit show “Sex and the City” pertained only to Manhattan, you were wrong.

A Forest Hills dentist was chosen last month to play the part of the best man at a wedding on the show’s season finale that will air Sept. 8.

Bruce Sims, who has a practice at 108-12 72nd Ave., tried out along with 500 others for parts as extras on the show after his wife pressured him into taking a shot at a bit role July 12, he said.

“I thought I had no chance at all. I didn’t even know they were looking for” a best man on the show, Sims said. “At first I didn’t even want to do it. Then I got excited.”

The casting company for “Sex and the City” took Polaroids of everyone who auditioned and a few days later Sims got an invitation to show up at the shooting location in Old Westbury Gardens, L.I., along with about 100 other extras, he said.

Soon after he arrived at the shooting location, the casting director singled Sims out to stand next to the groom played by Nathan Lane, he said. Though he has no lines, Sims receives a lot of air time in six scenes at the wedding and reception where he is seen dancing and mingling, he said.

“My wife loves the show and now I’m watching it. Plus I just thought it’d be fun,” Sims said

Filming for the episode spanned three days, going through the night on July 18 and July 19, Sims said. He had to stand next to Lane’s character for several hours of filming for a scene that will last only a few minutes, he said.

On a filming break, Sims was able to attend a party and met all the stars of the show, including Sarah Jessica Parker, saying they were all very friendly.

For those curious about the show’s plot, Sims said he does not know the details of the story since not all the scenes for the season finale were shot in Old Westbury Gardens or chronologically. He did say none of the four main characters is married on the episode.

The casting company for the show also told Sims that they plan on contacting him to play other parts on television shows, he added.

“It’s ridiculous. My friends are starting a fan club. My friends are making the best of having fun with it,” Sims said.

Still, Sims said he is not leaving his job in Forest Hills.

“I’m not giving up my day job. [A part with] a one-liner would be good, but that’s as far as I can go. I’m not an actor. I can’t act,” Sims said.
